More and more solar companies are establishing in Cambodia. That is good news. In a country like Cambodia, where over 80% of the population lacks a reliable power connection, much is to be done. Many hands will make the great task bearable for everybody.
Pico Sol Cambodia drew the conclusion that some efforts should be put in development of this upcoming sector. We could play a role in this development. This role goes beyond the charity purposes that we fulfilled in the first operational years. It seems that the many Cambodian and international NGOs are able to do this in a more efficient way.
During the building of the Solar Campus as vocational training center in the field of solar energy, we already anticipated to this development. We studied the feasibility and need for a training center in 2009. The study taught us a high need for such a centre. The need is not only restricted to deliver skilled technicians, but also to promote and give information to organizations and individuals on the opportunities. A professional sector simply needs many skills and roles that will strengthen and support each other. Selling solar products to villagers for instance is something completely different than installing a solar panel at a remote school.
Experimenting with solar cells at the Solar Campus during a technical training. The training needs assessment also concluded that Pico Sol’s role could be more than development to a training centre. In a broader set-up of our organization, we should also address the need for awareness campaigns, development of financial models, and quality control. Such a role would result to a large organization, of what we still are hesitating to take big steps. For this reason, we will focus coming years to the issue that we are good at: Training of young persons to solar installer or solar entrepreneur.

The project on development of the Solar Campus aims to elaborate on this issue. By the construction of facilities, the installation of many educative solar solutions, and the development of our own training program, we aim to play a major role in the development of a mature solar sector with skilled and highly motivated personnel.
Het budget needed for this project is $ 50000
